The Vaccines in MENA Data Science Initiative launched its interactive map

The Vaccines in MENA Data Science Initiative launched its platform and its interactive map which provides free access to reliable and up-to-date COVID-19 data, capturing key information including epidemiological statistics, vaccine purchase and delivery details, COVAX contributions and vaccination campaign progress across the MENA region.

The platform is accessible to the public via: covid.tuncph.org/covid/map

This initiative is the fruit of a collaborative effort between the Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE), Global Health Strategies (GHS), the Tunisian Center for Public Health (TunCPH) and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Data science is a powerful tool in advocating for a healthier world. Visualizing data and exposing disparities allows for a better understanding of the pandemic’s status as well as vaccination progress to push decision-makers to take the right measures for their country,” said Dr Melek Somai, Assistant Professor at Medical College of Wisconsin and team lead of the Vaccines in MENA Data Science Initiative.

Amidst a significant rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths, the region continues to witness blatant disparities in vaccination coverage. Countries like Yemen, Syria and Iraq are suffering painfully slow vaccination progress while other countries exceeded 50% coverage months ago. The Vaccines in MENA Data Science Initiative aims to highlight these gaps, stressing the importance of equitable vaccination and promoting values of solidarity embodied by the COVAX Facility.
