Dr Amal Amin from Egypt holds a PhD from the Faculty of Science of Cairo University. She is a Professor at the National Research Center of Egypt and has taken part in many national and international conferences. She has founded Women in Science without Borders Initiative/ Network (WISWB).
Dr Amin won the ‘Women in Tech Africa Awards- Outstanding Women in Tech, North Africa’. In partnership with FindevCanada, the awards scheme seeks to celebrate Women in Technology in Africa, who are excelling in the field at all career levels, under the theme “Celebrating African Women in Technology”.
Dr Amin also won the visiting senior research fellowship in Spanish centres of excellence through the ‘Science by Women-6th Edition’ program, an initiative of ‘The Women for Africa Foundation (FMxA)’. This program is designed to promote African women’s leadership in scientific research and technology transfer. The main goal is to enable women scientists to tackle the great challenges faced by Africa through research in health, agriculture and food security, water, energy and climate change, which can be transferred into products and technologies of great impact on people’s lives. Dr Amal Amin won the fellowship in ‘Agriculture and Food Security’, and her research is about “Investment of agricultural wastes in different biomedical applications”. Although agricultural wastes may be considered as a renewable resource, they are systematically burnt which causes severe pollution and a tremendous waste of valuable material. Her project is directed to tackle this issue and intends to have a great environmental impact, by investing these wastes in eco-friendly ways as well as a social one, by developing cost-effective applications for curing rice husk.
