S4D4C participated in the S4D4C final networking meeting

SASTA participated in the S4D4C final networking meeting titled Addressing Global Challenges Together: the Role of Science Diplomacy. It was a round table discussion on March 15, 2021.

Professor Rana Dajani, the president of SASTA, emphasized that we must not forget as scientists that science first and foremost is about serving humanity, upholding justice and doing good.

The panel also included:

  • David Mair: Head of Knowledge for Policy: Concepts and Methods, Knowledge Management at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission.

  • Suvi Seppäläinen: The Advisor on Transatlantic Relations, Emerging Technologies, and Foresight, Strategic Policy Planning Team at the European External Action Service (EEAS).

  • Thomas Flichy de La Neuville: A research professor at the Institute of World Politics (IWP), and Chair of Geopolitics at Rennes School of Business.

  • Ana Elorz: Science Advice and Diplomacy Coordinator at the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, a partner of the S4D4C project.

The conference is around five main pillars that came out of a policy report we recently launched; “Calling for a systemic change: towards an EU science diplomacy for addressing global challenges”. Those five pillars are people, knowledge, alliances, institutions, and governance with no silos. At this global conference, we would like to deepen our understanding of the role these pillars have to play in addressing global challenges through science diplomacy.
