“AlTajrubah with Farzat” is a podcast hosting Arab scientists, researchers, science journalists, and more to share their professional as well as human stories.
What started as a hobby in 2019 is now a podcast with 10+ episodes of rich discussions about the guests’ tough roads to reach the success they are today. The podcast creator and host is Dr Farzat Al Chayah. Dr Al Chayah is Syrian and currently resides in Germany where is doing his residency in Neurology. When asked by SATA about his motivation to start this experience exchange project, Dr Al Chayah said “I have always noticed that people who manage to reach an esteemed place in their career had to struggle one way or another, so I wanted to make a show about their experiences to pick the similarities in their stories. I believe that sharing how they overcame obstacles will give young listeners hope that even when you fail, you are not a failure; you are just one step behind reaching your goals.”
Not only do guests share their professional journeys with all their ups and downs, but Dr Al Chayah also makes sure to ask them to name their favourite books and podcasts. By the end of each interview, listeners will have had a recommended list of rich resources to consume.
We asked Dr Al Chayah to highlight a few episodes. “It is hard to choose between episodes, but if I had to, I would pick the one with Dr Alia AbuKiwan. It shows how that Mother/Scientist combination works, especially since she works at Heidelberg University, one of the top universities here in Germany. In the same category is the episode with Dr Islam Hussein. Here, we can see how determination can defy the impossible. And of course, my personal favourite is with Dr Ahmed Raslan because he is one of the few who helped me to get to this point as a content maker.” Dr Al Chayah said.
