The Business Science initiative focuses on 1) developing structural and financial operations to develop an integrated science, R&D, and technology (SRDT) enterprise that capitalizes on scientific, medical or technological discoveries generated in universities or research institutes in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region; 2) Act as a bridge to encourage venture capital firms and angel investors from the United States and Europe to invest in start-up or small but growing companies in the MENA region; 3) Utilize and track international funding mechanisms that would facilitate scientific exchanges and collaborations between local scientists in MENA region and expatriates.

The Program

The Business-Science plan will focus on two main initiatives:

(A) STRUCTURAL OPERATIONS
1. Develop an integrated science, research, and technology (SRT) enterprise to capitalize on scientific, medical or technological discoveries generated in universities or research institutes in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

2. Publicize our efforts to establish the SRT enterprise through our website, database, and selected local entrepreneurs. Encourage scientists and translational researchers in the MENA region to contact us for consultations and guidance.

3. Help start-up companies in the MENA region to obtain patents to fully protect their intellectual properties worldwide.

4. Act as a bridge to encourage venture capital firms and angel investors in the United States and Europe to invest in start- up or small but growing companies in the MENA region.

(B) FINANCIAL OPERATIONS
1. Develop the financial resources necessary to fund the Initiative beyond the expected support from governments. Capitalize on people’s talent and encourage their entrepreneurial spirits to increase financial resources through creative efforts.

2. Develop plans for a major fund raising effort from large corporations to benefit from their corporate social responsibilities.

3. Encourage local donations and investments for enhancing SRT translational research activities by philanthropists and wealthy members of the MENA community. Using the local media to highlight examples of successful donations and investments in the Western countries could accelerate such an effort.

4. Utilize and track international funding mechanisms that would facilitate scientific exchanges and collaborations between local scientists in MENA region and expatriates.
